Ford Everest 2022 showcased as Ranger SUV with chassis-mounted body platform

Just about three weeks ago, Ford unveiled the next-gen Ranger, and now it’s eager to preview the SUV equivalent of the midsize pickup. The revamped Everest will not come to the United States as it would conflict with the Bronco, but it is an important model for the Blue Oval in markets such as Australia, the Philippines, Thailand and also the India where he is known as Endeavor.

Unsurprisingly, the grille and headlights are virtually identical to the truck’s, but the bumper is a bit different and has new chrome accents around the fog lights. You can easily tell it’s a tough SUV by its generous ground clearance and suspension travel, not to mention the six lug nuts. Thick side steps in line with those of the Ranger are noticeable, as are the plastic trim pieces on the front fenders.

The rear looks quite interesting with its L-shaped tail lights with an interrupted design on the tailgate. One can’t help but wonder if the clusters are stretching further than Ford wants to show at the moment. Either it’s just a black bar in the center of the tailgate, or we’re looking to camouflage to hide the LED light bar.

Pictures of the interior aren’t available in this initial teaser, but we don’t expect any major changes from the pickup, except for the addition of a third row now that the bed of the Ranger has disappeared. Infotainment should measure 10.1 inches in the base model and reach 12 inches for the top performers. SYNC4 will be on board, with improved materials, a sleeker shifter and a redesigned drive mode selector.

Under the hood, a newly developed 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 will replace the old in-line five-cylinder oil burner, while lower versions will be powered by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel unit. A plug-in hybrid version will be available for the first time, and there are also expected to be EcoBoost gasoline engines in some markets. As it stands, we haven’t heard anything about the new Everest getting what is believed to be a gasoline-powered V6 for the Ranger Raptor that’s set to break cover in February.

Ford says it will unveil the revised body-on-chassis SUV in the first quarter of 2022.
